Things To Do This Summer In Avon

Farmers market

The Avon, CT area, is bustling with activities for the summer, both indoor and outdoor, and for both young and old. If you’re looking for some fun ways to escape the summer heat, here are just a few events that we think will appeal to a wide audience.

Foodie Films On Friday

Cool down and escape the afternoon heat at the Avon Free Public Library on Fridays from 1:30 pm until 4:00 pm. The screenings will be every Friday from June 19th through August 14th, in the library’s Community Room, and snacks are provided because the films are sure to make you hungry!

Farmers Market With A Twist

The Avon Free Public Library hosts their 2nd annual Farmer’s Market in their parking lot starting July 6th and every Monday through August 31st from 4 pm until 7 pm. This farmer’s market will feature vendors that will sell bison, chicken and baked bread, a full meal that you can bring home right in time for dinner. New this year, the farmer’s market will host several authors from the area who will be on site to sign and sell copies of their books. Live music will be a new feature this year as well, one concert will be held on July 13th and the second on August 10th. These concerts will be free. The Farmer’s Market at Avon Free Public Library was a great hit last summer and with these new features, it’s sure to be even bigger this summer!

Summer Americana Music

Don’t miss a musical evening under the stars at the outdoor open courtyard at the Avon Free Public Library on July 13th from 7 pm until 8 pm. This concert will be free to the public, open to all ages and will feature quite the musical lineup. The music you will hear will be an eclectic mix of pop, blues, bluegrass, and oldies with Mark White playing guitar, harmonica and vocals, and Jon Swift on upright bass and vocals. In case of rain, the event will be held inside in the Community Room.

Drezner Visitor’s Gallery Exhibit

Through the end of the month of June, an exhibit titled At The Table is being featured at the Drezner Visitors’ Gallery. This exhibit is in conjunction with Palette to Palate, a fundraiser of the Farmington Valley Arts Center. This unique exhibit features paintings, photography, crafts, drawings, and sculpture that depict food meals, and objects relating to and for the table. Interesting handcrafted items such as napkins, placements, candleholders, and dinnerware are also included in the exhibit. Gallery hours are Friday and Saturdays only from noon until 4 pm and also by appointment.
